San Diego County Fair: Part Two

Catching up on entries… Yay…

On Sunday, 6/30, I had the opportunity to check out the fair for a second time this year (and paying only $3 for admission). Though I wanted to try out more food, I didn’t really have the money to spend for it. I’m not too disappointed about it since I had what I wanted the last time I went to the fair. I did try the deep fried cookie dough…and it was very good…

I went to the area where the flower and garden show was held. There were lots of bonsai plants and miniature rock gardens on display, all of which looked amazing…

Obviously, taking pictures of objects behind glass or plastic is not easy, as the reflection can be seen in some of the shots…

Something new was taking place at the fair this year, which was live weddings. There were actual weddings taking place and fair goers could come and watch as the couples make their vows…or even renew them…

I should’ve grabbed some h’orderves while I had the chance… LOL

Another highlight of the day was feeding butterflies…

Everyone was given a cotton swab to dip into nectar, which was place around the enclosure. Then, I had to carefully place the swab in front of the butterfly’s front legs. After many failed attempts, the butterfly finally climbed onto the swab and just hung out for a while…and even took in some of the nectar…

One thing I learned from here is that butterflies can taste with their feet… I thought it was rather unusual, but then again so is nature…

I couldn’t leave the enclosure without making sure none of the butterflies were on me, so I had to release them before making my way out…

My next destination was the Star Trek exhibit. Though I had to pay a separate fee to enter, photography of any kind wasn’t allowed. So, I have no pictures of the exhibit… Anyway, they had a full size replica of the bridge from the original Star Trek series…and it cost $15 to have a picture taken in the captain’s chair. There was also costumes on display from various TV series and movies. They even had devices on display, like tricorders, communicators and a laser scalpel… At the end of the exhibit, there was a table set up with various Star Trek merchandise. From T-shirts to tribbles, it was there…

Of course, it’s not a fair without a monster truck running around…

I was going to do a segment on the animals at the fair, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to take enough pictures of them. So, if I go to the fair again next year, I’ll make sure to focus more on those animals…

That’s all for now… Up next, my AX blog entry. Stay tuned…
